The Ministère de l'Éducation nationale is France's Ministry of National Education. It is also known as the Ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche, or the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, and Research. Their website is available in French and provides general information about the educational system, various statistics, and several assessments of the educational system

Éduscol is another website maintained by the Ministry of National Education. This page provides information about the organization of the school system in French. Information about the organization of the school system from a 2010 report is also available in English.

Natural Disasters and School Emergency Drills

Information about school emergency drills such as fire drills or drills for other natural disasters may not be available online. However, another way to be prepared is to be aware of some of the common natural disasters that occur in France:

  • Forest fires: Forest fires can occur anywhere in southern France during the summer months but especially along the Mediterranean coast and on Corsica.
  • Flooding: During periods of heavy rainfall, areas of France can be at risk of flooding, particularly regions near the Seine or other rivers.
  • Avalanches: There can be risks of avalanches in the mountainous areas of the country.
