Multilingual Electronic Resources for Slavic, East European & Eurasian Studies: Sociological Abstracts

A guide to 13 databases with significant content in both English and the languages of the region

Articles, books, book chapters, reviews, dissertations, & conference papers

Like Worldwide Political Science Abstracts, Sociological Abstracts is offered through ProQuest and is one of the most extensive collections of materials in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences, providing abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from thousands of serials publications, books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers.

Records date back to 1952. Like WWPSA, Sociological Abstracts enables “cited reference linking” for certain records (namely those entered since 2002 from prominent sociological journals), includes browsable indexes, a subject thesaurus, and uses an in-house classification scheme.

Here is what a search for ““family structure” AND Russia”” looks like:

Screenshot of a search in ProQuest database Sociological Abstracts. The search bar says “family structure” AND Russia. There are 797 results, with filtering options on the left.

On the left-hand side of the search results, several filters are available to further refine your search. For example, you can limit results by peer-reviewed articles, source type, date, language, and more.
