Multilingual Electronic Resources for Slavic, East European & Eurasian Studies: WWPSA

A guide to 13 databases with significant content in both English and the languages of the region

Articles, books, book chapters, reviews, dissertations

Worldwide Political Sciences Abstracts (WWPSA) provides abstracts and indexes the international literature of political science and international relations, along with complementary fields such as international law and public policy/administration. It contains abstracts of journal articles, books, book chapters, dissertations and working papers, and citations to book reviews.

Key features of WWPSA include:

  • Over 1,500 serials indexed, with over 50 countries represented and around 60% published outside of the United States

  • Coverage from 1909 – present

  • Browsable indexes

  • Subject terms thesaurus covering all records added since 2000

  • “Cited reference linking” for records added since 2001, enabling users to directly access cited articles from the source’s bibliography

Records entered into the database before 2001 were not identified by language. Since 2001, the database has added thousands of Russian-language items, with fewer vernacular language sources.

Here is what a search for “Ukrainian agriculture” looks like:

On the left-hand side of the search results, several filters are available to further refine your search. For example, you can limit results by peer-reviewed articles, source type, date, language, and more.
