Latinx Library Resources: How To: Find Books

A library resource guide for studying Latinx Studies

Tips on Finding Books

An excellent first step to finding books for Latinx Studies is to search the Library Catalog. Try searching subject terms like:

  • Hispanic Americans or Latinas or Latinos

You can also try combining terms like:

  • Hispanic American Women-Health or Latinas-Health
  • Hispanic American youth or Latina youth or Latino youth
  • Hispanic American studies or Latino Studies
  • Hispanic Americans-history or Latinas History or Latinos History
  • Hispanic Americans-political activity or Latinos-political activity

Look for ways to limit your search on the left of the results page (such as by resource type, subject, date, and language). To see the most recent books you can limit the resource type to "books," and change the sort by setting, at the top of the left-hand menu pane, to sort by "date-newest." screenshot of a UIUC library catalog search for the term "Hispanic Americans." The search yielded 6,189 results. The first result is a book titled "The Hispanic Americans" by Milton Meltzer. The second result is a video titled "Hispanic Americans the Second Generation" from Films for the Humanities and Sciences. There is a left-hand side menu pane that provides options to tweak your results.
