The University Library has several useful guides for doing industry and market research.

To locate NAICS information for individual companies, search using company research databases. Use the links below to locate NAICS information for specific industry sectors or subsectors.

In addition to company profile information, Hoovers publishes First Reports, which include industry trends, forecasts, ratios, and "Call Prep Questions." In addition to Industry Profiles, there are State & Province Profiles, Sales & Marketing Templates, and Industry Prospector (building an industry list based upon metrics).

Note that you can only access these reports from the UIUC campus network or the VPN. If you're off-campus and don't have access to the VPN, see the Other Industry Information Finding Aids box at left for additional options.

Research an industry

1. Connect to Hoovers Online through the University Library
2. Click on the Research Industries box on the Hoover's main page.
3. Type the NAICS codes you want to search or use the keyword search.
4. Select D&B Hoovers Industries from the Industry Source drop-down
5. Click View Results in the top right corner of the page.
6. Click the name of the industry on the search results screen

Find a market research report

1. Connect to Hoovers Online through the University Library
2. Click on Analyze Markets
3. Click on the Research Industries box on the Hoover's main page.
4. Type the NAICS codes you want to search or use the keyword search.
5. Select D&B Hoovers Industries from the Industry Source drop-down
6. Click View Results in the top right corner of the page.
