This libguide provides an introduction to resources regarding anime and manga available at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The two Youtube videos on the left discuss "favorite mangas and animes of all time". This libguide is for you to make your own list of favorites. Japanese anime and manga are widely popular across the globe, and the library has huge collections both in Japanese and English. Please stop by our library located on the 3rd floor at the Main Library or the basement floor at the Undergraduate Library to find physical copies.
This libguide mainly consists of 3 sections.
1. Resources on Manga and Anime
This section is intended to organize secondary research materials about anime and manga. Books, articles, and journals written about manga and anime are located here. There is even a journal edited at the University of Illinois!
2. Classical Manga and Anime
This section of this libguide provides information about historical manga and cartoons in Japan, with an emphasis on locating primary sources and images. This section is somewhat incomplete yet, but we'll try to update them as soon as possible.
3. Contemporary Manga and Anime
This section is organized thematically and is intended to provide an introduction to the Japanese and English language materials available at the University of Illinois. You will see many mangas and animes are listed in this section. If your favorite manga is not there, please let us know. We'll add them.
