This libguide provides an introduction to resources regarding anime and manga available at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The two Youtube videos below discuss "favorite manga and anime of all time". This libguide is for you to make your own list of favorites. Japanese anime and manga are widely popular across the globe, and the library has huge collections both in Japanese and English. Please stop by the International and Area Studies Library located on the 3rd floor at the Main Library or find physical copies of anime on the 5th floor of the Main Stacks and manga on the 10th floor East Deck of the Main Stacks.
This libguide mainly consists of 3 sections.
1. Resources on Manga and Anime
This section is intended to organize secondary research materials about anime and manga. Books, articles, and journals written about manga and anime are located here. There is even a journal edited at the University of Illinois!
2. Manga by Genre
This section of this libguide provides information manga and anime in Japan by genre intended to provide an introduction to the Japanese and English language materials available at the University of Illinois.
3. Major figures and works
We've also included major works based on the classic Tale of Genji, by Osamu Tezuka who is considered the godfather of manga, and by Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki a major producer of acclaimed animated movies in the 20th/21st century.
