Special Collections Best Practices for Digitization  

Care and Handling 

• DS never rehouses materials for collections.   

• Specific projects may include removing from housing or rehousing planned into the project however this is done in coordination with Preservation and Conservation.  It is an exception when we do this, and it will be noted in the Project Charter. 

• DS will not digitize items we know we will damage during digitization unless the Library and Conservation have approved.  

• DS will not unpublish digitized content or collections unless there are copyright or privacy concerns.
