The Georgian National Museum was created through the unification of twelve distinct museums, the national gallery, and two research centers in 2004. Combined, their online collections allow users to explore the following Georgian subjects: art, archeology, ethnography, cinema, photography, natural history, and numismatics.
The nation of Georgia has contributed four elements adopted to UNESCO's registry of intangible cultural heritage. These contributions represent unique cultural practices of the Georgian people and include: Georgian polyphonic singing, the Ancient Georgian traditional Qvevri wine-making method, the living culture of the three writing systems of the Georgian alphabet, and Chidaoba, wrestling in Georgia.
Explore these cultural practices through the documentation provided by UNESCO below.
The National Archives of Georgia has created a collection of sound recordings available to stream via SoundCloud. Their auditorium includes fairy tales, audio books, folk music, pop music, and historic sound recordings of Georgian writers and political figures all in the Georgian language. This collection provides a unique opportunity to both improve listening comprehension and further experience Georgian culture.
