About This Exhibit

August’s exhibit celebrates the rich and varied music and dances from Peru.  The musical portions of this exhibit ranges from traditional cumbia to contemporary Latin rock.  Traditional Peruvian musical instruments include panpipes, the charango (miniature guitar) and drums such as the wankara and the tinya.  This exhibit highlights some of Peru’s most popular dances such as Huayno, La Danza de Tijeras (Dance of Scissors) and Peru’s national dance, the Marinera.
