What is Video?
This guide defines audio as recorded visual content, which may or may not include an audio track. If you are working with content that is primarily audio, please reference the "Audio" tab.
Loanable Technology for Video Recording
- Media Commons Loanable TechnologyThe Media Commons provides a variety of loanable technology for video recording, including cameras, microphones, and tripods.
- Media Commons Pro-GearMedia Commons also has a reservable collection of professional media production kits that are available for a small daily fee. Please visit their site for a full list of available kits and the associated costs.
Video Recording Spaces
- Self-Use Media StudiosThe Media Commons manage several one-room recording booths that are equipped with video and audio recording equipment, recording software, and editing software. Recording booths must be reserved in advance on Media Commons' website.
- Media Commons Video Production StudioThe Media Commons manages the Video Production Studio, which has multiple cameras, a video switcher, studio lighting, teleprompter, and multiple backdrop options. Please request a consultation with Media Commons using the form on their site before reserving the space.
- Media Hub and Learning LoungeCITL's Media Hub and Learning Lounge provide media technologies, demonstrations, consultations, and more for instructors creating media.
- Lightboard StudioCITL's Lightboard Studio is a studio for producing instructional video micro-lectures. In particular, it is designed to enable instructors who are comfortable with chalkboard instruction to produce videos with a similar style.
- Instructor StudioCITL's Instructor Studio is designed to help teaching staff at the University of Illinois set up and record instructional content on their own. It is available to all faculty, instructors, TAs and teaching staff.
Creating and Viewing 360° and VR Content
- Loanable 360° CamerasThe Media Commons loans out several 360° cameras, including the GoPro MAX 360, and Insta360 X3.
- IDEA Lab - 3D Design LabThe IDEA Lab at Grainger Library manages the 3D Design Lab, which is designed to support small groups developing 3D graphics, 3D modeling, gaming, VR/AR experiences and other 3D content. The 3D Design Lab must be reserved at least one day in advance.
- CITL's Virtual Reality LabCITL's Virtual Reality Lab has a variety of VR resources and technology for researchers interested in developing and testing VR content. Please contact CITL to discuss using their Virtual Reality Lab.
- IMMERSE - VR InfrastructureIMMERSE: Center for Immersive Computing maintains a list of spaces on campus with VR/AR resources.
