Indiana University provides access to twenty years of Letopis' zhurnal'nykh statei, the standard national bibliographic source for Soviet journal articles, in database form. This is an excellent way to search for references to articles in major (and many minor) Russian-language journals written during the Khrushchev and Brezhnev eras. All disciplines are covered. The database is useful not only for phenomena occurring during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, but also for secondary sources about earlier time periods, as can be seen in the example below.
This search has taken advantage of the subject organization of the national bibliography to zero in on articles relating to railroads only (section 28.2, "Railway transport") and containing the search term "BAM" (= the Baikal-Amur Mainline, which began construction in the 1930s).
