The Illinois Environmental Protection Act (415 ILCS 5/1 et seq) is Illinois’ primary statute for establishing a unified, state-wide program for restoring, protecting, and enhancing the quality of the environment, and to assure that adverse effects upon the environment are fully considered and borne by those who cause them. As of 2025, it has 28 titles, which govern the regulatory, permitting, and enforcement process, as well as protection of air, land, and water.
