MPAL Exhibits 2019-2020: Hawaiian Music and Dance

Documents exhibits at the Music and Performing Arts Library during the 2019-2020 academic year.

About This Exhibit

This exhibit celebrates music and dance from Hawaii!  Poetic lyrics about the islands, war chants and familiar luau tunes in this exhibit are as unique as the instruments used to play these compositions:  Slack key guitars, ukuleles and the nose flute to name a few.  Synonymous with much Hawaiian music is the hula, where a story is conveyed through pantomime.

Some of the notable composers in this exhibit include  Gabby Pahinui, The Sons of Hawaii and The Brothers Cazimero.  Hauʻoli i ka hō.ʻike! (Enjoy the exhibit!)
