Search and filter boxes on results pages

There are two search boxes available on the results pages, but they function very differently.

  • The Filter box is found in the top middle of the page and is used to narrow the search results by keyword such as names, subjects, or titles by filtering the results for the terms entered.
  • The Search box, in the upper right hand side of the page, will search everything on the platform by running a new global search for the terms entered.

The Filter and Search fields are highlighted in orange boxes on the screenshot below.

Tips for using the filter box to narrow results

The filter box in the middle left of the page allows you to search or filter results by particular keywords. Here are some tips:

  • The filter box can only filter by whole words (for example, typing "scrap" will not find results for "scrapbook").
  • Spelling counts -- the system does not have a spell check.
  • If the filter term entered returns no results, the facets selected from the side may be reset after clearing the terms to start again.
