This page describes additional resources at UIUC which may be useful for students in their courses. It includes technology, equipment, and maker and studio spaces.
Loanable Technology is a part of the Media Commons at the Main Library. Students can borrow technology for up to 10 days, depending on availability. Items available at Loanable Technology include laptops, cameras, sound recording equipment, calculators, adapters, and more. There is additional technology available for loan at the IDEA Lab at Grainger Library.
For courses that require the use of specialized technologies, there may be technology available to borrow or use through the course's school. Check with your department to learn more.
The UIUC Webstore offers a wide range of free and reduced cost software to students. The software covers a variety of disciplinary needs. They also offer trainings to improve technology skills and knowledge.
The IDEA Lab at Grainger Library is dedicated to providing access to emerging technologies. In addition to offering some loanable technology, they have 3D printing and 3D digitization services. They also offer reservable, technology-rich study spaces with equipment such as VR headsets, high-resolution monitors, and workstations, as well as design and gaming software. Note that while most services at the IDEA Lab are free, there may be a fee on some equipment and materials to cover the cost of use. More information is available on their website.
The CU Community Fab Lab is a university-run makerspace on campus. They host open hours for people to use their equipment, which includes 2D and 3D printing tools, sewing machines, power tools, lasers, and more. The Fab Lab suggests making an appointment to ensure that the tools one needs are available for use. Note that some tools and materials may have a fee to cover the cost of use. More information is available on their website.
