Brass Resource Guide

This resource is a method book providing instructional materials for the study and practice of the slide trombone and baritone. The book includes diagrams of the slide trombone and baritone, instructions on positioning, and various practice studies for different aspects of trombone performance.

This combination of exercises, instruction, and reference materials helps music education students learn to play and teach brass instruments, and is a resource students can use after they move into their teaching careers. Written by five brass players, Teaching Brass addresses the problems of learning and teaching the five principle brass instruments from the viewpoint of an expert teacher on each specific instrument.

This handbook goes into the various aspects of trombone practice and performance, including hand grips and playing position, embouchure, breath control, intonation, and slide technique. The book includes trombone scales and arpeggios for practice and an annotated bibliography of selected trombone literature.

This resource is a compilation of etudes based on jazz standards and blues meant to teach bass trombone players about the language of jazz. There is an accompanying CD to this resource that includes two tracks for each etude, one with the soloist playing with the rhythm section and the other without the soloist.
