About the Collection

South Asian films and media are housed in the Undergraduate Library Media Collection. The collection features over 550 films in 11 South Asian languages, including many of the top hits from the Bollywood film industry.

The spreadsheet below contains a (mostly complete) list of Hindi-language feature films available in DVD format at the University of Illinois. If you have suggestions for other South Asian films, please email Mara Thacker at mthacker@illinois.edu

Asian Film Online from Alexander Street Press is a multi-part online streaming video collection of more than 1,000 narrative feature films, documentaries, and shorts. With Asian voices addressing Asian issues, and through works selected by Asian film experts, the collection offers highly relevant perspectives and insights.

Centre of South Asian Studies Cambridge Film Collections
Approximately 50 individual collections totaling 80 hours of footage. Mostly 16mm or 8mm home movies. Streaming available for research or teaching purposes.

This website, hosted by Digital Himalaya, provides access to a collection of ethnographic films and video from the Himalaya Region.
Films Division--Ministry of Information and Broadcasting--Government of India
Films Division of India holds more than 800 titles on Documentaries, Short Films and Animation Films in its archives. These films range from events of Socio-cultural importance to Political events.
