Librarian's Environmental Toolkit

A guide to environmental resources for non-environmental librarians

Introduction

Environmental information is multidisciplinary. It encompasses many fields, including engineering, chemistry, ecology, biology, agriculture, economics, history, and business. At the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, the topics of waste and energy are what link these disciplines together. This guide is intended to be an introduction to environmental sources for librarians who don't specialize in environmental information, with an emphasis on resource efficiency and pollution prevention. It was developed by Laura L. Barnes, Sustainability Information Curator at the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center from 1995-2025.
