Illinois Leadership Competencies: Personal/Self: Reflection

An effective leader nurtures and improves their own self-esteem, goals, relationships, and values through self analysis and self-growth. This LibGuide provides resources to support the development of the Personal/Self competency.

What is Reflection?

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect."

-Mark Twain

Reflection is an integral competency for the Personal/Self group. It is thinking about the ramifications of your actions, and grappling with the consequences of your mindset. The more you reflect, the better understanding you'll have of you, your team, and your community.

Don't fall down the rabbit hole into a solipsistic crisis, but take the time to read, watch, and listen to these sources, and then participate in some meditation, logging, and writing to develop your reflections.
