Legislation

The River Conservancy District Act is intended to facilitate "unified control of a lake or of a river system or a portion thereof" with respect to recreational use,  water supply, flood control, or pollution.   A single River Conservancy District can occupy area in multiple counties.

This list is a work in progress, and includes current and historic River Conservancy Districts.   The number of River Conservancy Tax Districts in Illinois between 2004 and 2013 was 13 or 14, depending on the year (Illinois Department of Revenue Property Tax Statistics, Table 4: Number of Taxing Districts by Type 2004-2013).
