Conservation Land Trusts have been established statewide to facilitate working with private landowners to preserve land that may not be managed for public use. These are private, non-governmental, not-for-profit organizations "that actively work to conserve land and protect natural resources by undertaking or assisting in land conservation acquisition, or by stewardship of such land or easements. This is accomplished through partnerships with private and public landowners." Some of these Conservation Land Trusts are called conservancies, but are not government-managed conservancy districts.
