As a somewhat niche and developing genre, graphic science materials can be difficult to find and collect. There are many different places to look for materials as they are published including academic journals, comic websites, catalogs, blogs, and author websites, among other places. Below are a few resources reviewed for materials gathered at Funk Library.
Traditional bioscience journals do not often contain graphic science materials, though this could change as the genre becomes more prevalent. However, academic comic journals are more likely to contain materials that overlap between comic and science fields. Academic comic journals typically publish two to three times a year.
As comics are a medium of constant change the places to look for materials also can fall outside the normal resources. The list below was used to help both materials for acquisition as well as LibGuide resources.
The recommendation is as these are sites that can be updated daily in some cases that a review should be done weekly or monthly.
This unique resource as comics are distributed to bookstores by several publishing distribution houses but to directly specialty shops. These are compiled into a monthly print and digital catalog called Diamond Preview Catalog . The physical edition can be purchased locally at G-Mart in Urbana-Champaign. (This is not an endorsement but a statement of retailing fact as they are the only local comic shop at the time the initial guide was compiled.)
