University of Illinois is a Member of the Biodiversity Heritage Library
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has been contributing to the Biodiversity Heritage Library since 2007, and became a full member of the BHL in 2014.
As of May 2023, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has added 6683 volumes from 4335 titles, and 2,149,949 pages to the BHL, and more than 5,000 images to the BHL's flickr collection.
On average, University of Illinois contributions to the Biodiversity Heritage Library receive more than 11,000 views by more than 4,000 users each month.
Much of the work the BHL has accomplished is due to volunteer efforts by the organizations involved and also users like you! There are many ways you can contribute to the efforts of the BHL whether it is suggesting content additions, tagging Flickr images, or more. See the list below for various opportunities!

Our online coloring book was created from images found in the Biodiversity Heritage Library and other digital collections. Each sheet includes a full attribution of the featured image(s), with links to the digitized items.

- Make a suggestion
Tell us what you would like to see added to the BHL. This can include in-copyright material, if permissions from the rights holder can be arranged.
- Tag Flickr images
Help enhance access to flickr images with taxon and other tags. Follow instructions for machine readable tags for maximum impact!
- Volunteer opportunities
There are official volunteer opportunities with the Biodiversity Heritage Library, including image tagging, field notes transcription, and other vital work that enhances access and usability of the collections.
- Are you a publisher that wants to contribute content?Explicit permission from the copyright holder is required in writing. BHL requires rights holders to sign a standard license agreement form legally permitting us to add in-copyright content to our free and open access collection.
