Standards

The Library is able to provide access to several standards relevant to translation:

ASTM standards are available online via IHS Standards Expert. After you click the link to IHS Standards Expert, you will be taken to a page listing the database. Select the database. In datablase you will be given four choices. Select the first choise IHS Standards Experts. Once you are in the IHS Standards Expert, you can search by ASTM number:

  • ASTM F2575 Standard Guide for Quality Assurance in Translation
  • ASTM F2089 Standard Guide for Language Interpretation Services

Selected International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards are available at the Grainger Engineering Library. These are cataloged under the call number 620am33a. For assistance please ask for them at the Grainger Reference Desk. Standards currently available include:

  • ISO 704 (3rd edition, 2009): Terminology work -- Principles and methods
  • ISO 12616 (1st edition, 2002): Translation-oriented terminology
  • ISO 12620 (2nd edition, 2009): Terminology and other language and content resources

The European Committee for Standardization published a quality standard written specifically for the translation industry. It is also available at the Grainger Engineering Library. For assistance please ask for it at the Grainger Reference Desk.
