About the collection

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign collects South Asian comics and graphic novels as part of an initiative to develop a national specialized research resource for students, instructors, and scholars interested in these materials.  This circulating collection expands on the Library's existing popular culture collection, and has an initial focus on Indian comics in English and selected vernacular languages, especially Hindi, and will expand in scope in the future.  The library also collects related research studies on South Asian graphic novels, as well as works inspired by them, such as video adaptations.   All items are currently housed in the Undergraduate Library, alongside many of the Library's other popular culture resources, which include a variety of other international graphic novels and videos, as well as related popular culture studies research materials.
