LibGuides

U.S. Expansion to 1898

Introduces history majors to basic research library concepts (you should master before History 498). Provides both a broad overview of the source types collected by research libraries, and also lists specific sources relevant to research for this course.

Subject Specialist Librarians

Subject specialist librarians are eager to assist you with your library research, and in most cases can save you a lot of time, especially if you meet with them early in order to plan out your research strategy. Subject specialists are not only professional librarians, but are also recognized scholars in their own right. Many have earned advanced degrees in their area of specialization. Unlike other library staff, subject specialist librarians are tenured or tenure-track professors, and are members of the University faculty.

Subject specialist librarians recognize the interdisciplinary, collaborative nature of historical research, and they encourage you to meet with any librarian whose area of expertise overlaps with your research.
