Online Learners and Instructors: Library Resource & Services

This guide provides resources for students and instructors enrolled in online programs and courses at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

I-Share

If you live in or near Illinois, you may have access to an I-Share member library. If so, you can borrow items onsite or order books and have them sent to that library free of charge. Refer to this map to see all if you live near an I-Share library. You may also return books to I-Share libraries free of charge.

I-Share books usually take about 5-10 days to arrive at the pick-up library, and you will receive an email at your @illinois.edu address when your request is available for pickup. I-Share is a free service for University of Illinois students and staff.

If you have found a book in the library catalog and you would like to check to see if it is available at one of the I-Share libraries, use the "Click here for availability via I-Share" link:

Searching for Books in the I-Share Catalog

If you do not find what you are looking for in our library catalog or if you want to see everything available across all I-Share libraries (including our library), you can search the I-Share catalog. If you are already searching our library catalog, you can switch to searching the I-Share catalog by clicking on the arrow at the right side of the search bar or clicking on I-Share Catalog at the top of the page (in some browsers you may need to click on the three dots next to Browse Search to display the I-Share option):

You can also access both catalogs by scrolling to the middle of the Library homepage and clicking on U of I Collection or I-Share Collection.

The steps for searching and requesting books in the I-Share catalog is the same as in the U of I Library catalog. Please see our Using the Library Catalog guide for details and screen shots on how to log in, search for, and request materials.
