Citizen science allows volunteer non-scientists to participate in data collection and analysis for scientific projects. This guide includes links to existing projects, both nationally and in Illinois.

Introduction

This guide is intended as an introduction to citizen science, also known as participatory science. It includes information for people who want to contribute to ongoing projects, as well as for researchers who want to collect or use crowdsourced data.

The Find A Citizen Science Project page includes links to tools and smart phone apps for citizen scientists. The Evaluating Citizen Science page includes articles that evaluate the accuracy and usefulness of citizen science data in ongoing projects.
