Project Group E: Police Shootings - Philando Castile & Black Lives Matters Case Study

Research Questions

  • What are the undisputed facts of what happened on 7/6/16?
  • What is the perspective of his girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, about what happened (she was a passenger in the car)?
  • What is the perspective of the police about what happened?
  • What is the Black Lives Matters movement? When did it start? What is their message?
  • How did BLM respond to the shooting of Mr. Castile? How did the citizens of Minneapolis-St. Paul respond to the shooting of Mr. Castile? How did local government officials respond to the shooting of Mr. Castile?
  • What happened to Officer Jeronimo Yanez (the police officer who shot Mr. Castile)?

Project Group F: Violence in Communities – Boston “Operation Ceasefire” Case Study

Research Questions

  • In 1996, Boston implemented a program aimed at reducing youth gun violence called Operation Ceasefire. Why did Boston find it necessary to introduce such a program? What specific challenges did the city face?  (Define “the problem.” Be specific with evidence)
  • What were the goals of Operation Ceasefire? Why did the city choose this approach to try to curtail youth gun violence?
  • What action steps did Boston take with Operation Ceasefire to achieve these goals?
  • What challenges did Boston face with this approach? What didn’t work?
