If you live in or near Illinois, you may have access to an I-Share member library. If so, you can borrow items onsite or order books and have them sent to that library free of charge. Refer to this map to see all if you live near an I-Share library. You may also return books to I-Share libraries free of charge.
I-Share books usually take about 5-10 days to arrive at the pick-up library, and you will receive an email at your @illinois.edu address when your request is available for pickup. I-Share is a free service for University of Illinois students and staff.
In order to request items from I-Share libraries, you will need to create an account if you haven't done so already.
Click the "Login" button on the I-Share catalog home page.
If you have already created a library account, you will just need to enter your NetID and password.
If not, a pop-up window will ask for your institution. Select "University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign." You will then be asked to enter a barcode and your last name. The barcode is the 14-digit library number on your I-Card. Please note that you must enter your last name as it appears on your I-Card. There are more detailed instruction for how to Set Up My Account.
Use the I-Share catalog to locate and verify the availability of a book.
When you identify a book, click "Request Item" next to any listing that says "Available." If there is more than one available listing, you can request whichever one you prefer.
Click on the tab on the right hand side that says 'Request 1st Available'. A new section will appear that asks for a Pick Up Library and Location. Select the "Pick Up Library" that is most convenient to you. At some libraries, you can use the dropdown menu next to "Pick Up Location" to specify exactly where you want to pick up the book within that library. Then click "Request."
Once you have submitted your request, you can track its progress by logging into your account. You will receive an email notifying you when the item is available for pickup. This process can take 5-10 days depending, in part, on how far the book needs to travel to the pickup location.
