SciFinder-n User Guide: Access Issues and Troubleshooting

How to register and get help using SciFinder-n

Access Issues

Excessive Downloading Messages

Do NOT download more than 200 articles in a single 24 hour period.  This is considered excessive downloading!

If you get an Excessive Downloading message from SciFinder, immediately stop all searching.  Your IP address will be shut down.  If you are coming in from off campus, CAS can shut off the proxy server and NO ONE will be allowed remote access until the problem is resolved.  Contact Chemistry Library staff immediately with the IP address and any CAS messages to help resolve the problem.

Sometimes excessive downloading happens when others hack or break into an Illinois SciFinder account.  Do NOT share your SciFinder login or password with anyone.  Often it takes a few days to have an IP address or proxy server access problem resolved.
