CABER works with many campus units to provide a facilitative structure for campus outreach, teaching, and research in areas related to bioenergy systems. CABER focuses on sustainable bioenergy systems, including plant, microbial, downstream processing and economics and policy issues as they relate to bio-based products. Hosted by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, the GLRPPR is a professional organization dedicated to promoting information exchange and networking to P2 professionals in the Great Lakes regions of the United States and Canada.

The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) is a Division of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability at the University of Illinois. ISTC is a change agency that performs research, spreads awareness, and facilitates implementation regarding practices, technology, and systems that improve sustainability.

The Prairie Research Institute is the joint home of the Illinois Natural History Survey, the Illinois State Water Survey, the Ilinois State Geological Survey, and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center. Established in July 2008, the Institute "represents a scientific partnership between the University and the Surveys that is unique in the nation, and well-suited to meet the challenges of natural resource research and management in the 21st century."

The Student Sustainability Committee's purpose is to: (a) explore the options for the use of the student fees for sustainability and alternative energy generation, (b) evaluate the feasibility of projects being discussed with the professional assistance of engineers in the Division of Facilities and Services.
