Expanded Virtual Research Support

In an effort to offset challenges brought on by the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Slavic Reference Service (SRS) at the University of Illinois is offering expanded virtual services to support remote scholars affiliated with the Summer Research Laboratory (SRL) programs at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign). Core components of the SRS virtual services include:

General Orientation Sessions through Zoom

  • Virtual Summer Research Laboratory (VSRL) participants can sign up for general orientation sessions. These sessions will explain how to use the library's resources, accessing and navigating the library websites, online catalogs, and research databases. After you sign up a member of the Slavic Reference Service will get in touch with you with a Zoom link for the session.

Duplication requests

  • In order to address a current need among scholars for print sources, the SRS staff will assist with duplication requests for short articles and entries from consultative sources. Duplication requests are restricted to 20 pages and dependent on access to print materials held at the University of Illinois Library. The SRS staff will be unable to fill duplication requests for materials not held at the Library. We will be glad to help you identify materials you may need, and which are not in our collection. These will have to be ordered through your home institution’s interlibrary loan department.

Virtual SRL participants are also encouraged to consult research guides compiled by the Slavic Reference Service and download the SRS Toolbox, which is included below.
