Hailed as “…a raucous, grungy, irresistibly exuberant…fun-loving, exceptionally virtuosic family” by The New York Times, the contemporary music ensemble Wild Up rejects the notion of stodgy classical music and offers programs that are eclectic, unpredictable, and thought-provoking. For over a decade, the Grammy-nominated group has defied expectations, performing at unconventional venues, collaborating with renowned avant-garde artists, and premiering hundreds of new works.
Julius Eastman Vol. 1: Femenine is the first entry in Wild Up’s anthology dedicated to exploring the work of the late composer, who was dismissed during his lifetime but is being reconsidered as a brilliant artist working at the forefront of musical experimentation. Femenine represents Eastman’s longform “organic” music—layered, textured, based on a foundational two-note, 13-beat melody that resonates with rich brass and dense percussion, an immersive, exuberant experience.
