Technology in the fire service is a broad term- it covers anything from fire pumps to computers to the protective clothes firefighters wear. Firefighting technology has come a long way over time, however the field of firefighting values tradition. This means that a lot of fire departments are apprehensive to adopt new technologies, even if they are safer and more effective.

NFPA Codes and Standards
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) publishes over 300 codes and standards that are used around the world! They are written with the intent of minimizing the harmful effects of fires, such as injury and death, as well as property damage. Many of these codes and standards deal directly with firefighting technology, from PPE to sprinkler systems. You can access the NFPA Codes and Standards both online and in person at the IFSI Library.
