Dot and John Replinger Home and Studios
In 1995, John Replinger retired from the Illinois School of Architecture, and he and his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Replinger moved into their Yankee Ridge home. The home is H-shaped, with two wings connected by a hallway. In the front wing, you finds private spaces, such as bedrooms and bathrooms. In the back wing, you are greeted with communal areas, like the kitchen and living room, as well as the architect and artist's studios. Dot's weaving studio was a lofted two-story space, and John's studio was on a second-floor loft at the opposite end. The design presents ideas of what a shared space is, and the home as a communal place for art-making and creating. On the other hand, this home design also explores privacy and compartmentalization of hidden matters versus shared space.
