The DLS Metadata Best Practices is a document intended to guide the design of metadata profiles and application of descriptive metadata within the University of Illinois Digital Library System (DLS). This document was created based on a variety of nationally and internationally accepted metadata standards and reflects recommendations for assuring accuracy and consistency within digital collections and across the broader system. The DLS Metadata Best Practices document is intended to be a resource for content providers (librarians, archivists, etc.) as they work with the Metadata Librarian to prepare and use metadata profiles within the DLS.
Please be advised, this document is NOT an instruction guide for how to create a metadata profile. All new profiles must be approved by the Metadata Librarian before being implemented. To develop a Metadata Profile for your collection in the digital library, please consult with Metadata Librarian Stephanie Luke.
For more information on each of these elements, see the complete Best Practices document in this guide. Additional elements are available to use in the Digital Library. See Appendix A in the Best Practices document for a list of these elements or contact Metadata Librarian Stephanie Luke for assistance.
