Government Grant Opportunities
These grants are available to fire departments/fire training academies/firefighters/EMS organizations in the United States.
- Assistance to Firefighters Grants"The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards by providing direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated EMS organizations, and State Fire Training Academies (SFTA) for critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience. The purpose of the FP&S Grant Program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards by assisting fire prevention programs and supporting firefighter health and safety research and development."
- FEMA Fire Service Grants and Funding"Under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) grants programs, career and volunteer fire departments and other eligible organizations can receive funding through three different grants to:
•Enhance a fire department’s/safety organization’s ability to protect the health and safety of firefighters and the public.
•Assist fire prevention programs and support firefighter health and safety research and development.

- Community Wildfire Defense Grant ProgramMarch 2023: Biden-Harris Administration invested nearly $200M from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to Reduce Wildfire Risk to Communities across State, Private and Tribal Lands. The Community Wildfire Defense Program, or CWDG, is intended to help at-risk local communities and Tribes plan for and reduce the risk of wildfire.
It prioritizes at-risk communities in an area identified as having high or very high wildfire hazard potential, are low-income, or have been impacted by a severe disaster that affects the risk of wildfire. - Data to support Community Wildfire Defense GrantsThe Wildfire Risk to Communities team has developed data to support the Forest Service’s Community Wildfire Defense Grant program. These data can be used by communities to evaluate eligibility and prepare applications.

- Illinois Fire Service Institute Basic Operations Firefighter Blended Training Program"Provides firefighters the practical and cognitive training needed to operate safely and effectively on the fireground This course is offered at no cost to Illinois students and departments. It is supported by a grant offered through the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal."
- Illinois State Fire Marshall GrantsIncludes information about the Small Equipment Grant Program, Ambulance Revolving Loan Program, Fire Truck Revolving Loan Program, and Fire Station Revolving Loan Program.

These grants are available to fire/EMS/public safety departments in the United States.
- bizfluent Grants for Fire Department Equipment"Funding is available from foundations across the nation for fire department equipment. Grant funding is funding that does not have to be repaid. There are specific application requirements for each foundation. The best way to start a request is with a letter describing the project. You can also contact the foundation and ask for application guidelines, which can help you navigate your way through the application process."
- The Ferguson Group General Grant GuideTFG is a company that specializes in securing federal funding for clients. Their linked guide, which lists some federal grants related to the fire service, is from 2017.
- Firefighters Charitable Foundation Grants"The Firefighters Charitable Foundation continues to provide assistance to those in need. Grants are given to assist local fire/disaster victims, fire prevention education, volunteer fire department equipment purchase, and community safety programs."
- Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation"Our Mission is to impact the lifesaving capabilities, and the lives of local heroes and their communities by providing lifesaving equipment and prevention education tools to first responders, non-profits and public safety organizations. - FM Global Fire Prevention Grant Program"Because we believe that the majority of fire can be prevented, FM Global is pleased to offer financial support to organizations working to combat fire. Through our Fire Prevention Grant Program, fire departments and brigades, as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations can apply for funding to support a wide array of fire prevention, preparedness and control efforts, including pre-incident planning, fire prevention education/training and arson prevention/fire investigation." "Grant applications are reviewed four times per year. The grant review period closes on March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31 or after 100 applications are received. Decisions on awards are made approximately 3 - 4 months after deadline."
