When you are off campus, use the tips below to access licensed online resources via the proxy server. The proxy server lets you log in with your NetID and AD password to access licensed resources.
The Virtual Private Network allows you to operate within the campus network from off campus, but it can interfere with library resource access. If you encounter problems, either change the configuration to "TunnelAll" or disconnect the VPN.
Google Scholar can generate "Discover" menus from our institution's OpenURL link resolver. To set this up:
1) Go to Google Scholar "settings."
2) Click "Library Links."
3) Enter "University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign" into the box and click the magnifying glass or hit return.
4) Select "University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign - Discover UIUC full text."
The "More" link under each item in Google Scholar search results will now offer a "Discover UIUC" option for each item, so you can find our licensed full text. Read more about the Discover service.
Find online articles with a DOI or citation. Full text links will prompt you to log in with your netID if you are off campus. If no full text is available, you'll be able to place an Interlibrary Loan request from the menu.
If you already have a direct link to an online resource, try pasting it after the 'equals sign' in this URL: http://www.library.illinois.edu/proxy/go.php?url=. If the University of Illinois has online access, and if the proxy configuration has been set up, you'll be able to log in and access the full text.
