So now you have arrived; you have a great idea and some people who are ready to do this idea with you. Great! Now what...
Believe us when we say, these next 10 weeks are going to be much easier for you if you can at least get the basics of how to work in a group. While it is not rocket science, there are certain areas that you need to pay attention to: communication, leadership, and conflict management. Ignore this advice at your peril!
When you are putting together the weekly schedule for project, we want you to really think about equitable division of labor. When thinking about your workload for the semester, remember that you should always:
1) Have a task that you own;
2) A role in supporting one of your teammates;
3) responsibility in assessing yourself and your teammates progress.
Number 3 is one of the reason we, the teachers, really emphasize the importance of the weekly reports. While the final version of that report can be turned in by one person, the process of making the report should be collaborative.
