What is SARS?

SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) is a viral respiratory illness, first identified in China in 2002. During its time in epidemic spread, SARS spread to more than 24 countries. Endemic spread of SARS ended in 2003, and the virus was officially contained in 2004.
