About Graduate Assistant STEM Librarianship Training

This Library Guide (LibGuide) accompanies a 20 week course as a part of Grainger Library's instruction and training of our pre-professional graduate assistants (GAs) during weekly reference meetings. The goals for this course are:

  • GAs will become familiar with information literacy instruction practices and pedagogy for instructing engineering students.
  • GAs will understand and be able to adapt to the way engineers use and access information, and how that impacts their research process.
  • GAs will become familiar with the different types of literature that are involved in the engineering research process, particularly grey literature.
  • GAs will be able to navigate databases and retrieve relevant information for STEM research inquiries.
  • GAs will be able to successfully retrieve different types of grey literature.
  • GAs will be able to conduct reference interviews to efficiently gather information and assist patrons in their research.
  • GAs will become familiar with the regulatory environment of research.
