Guide to Zoom for RSOs

Learn how to set up, run, and record meetings on Zoom for on-campus clubs and RSOs. You'll also find some tips and tricks for making Zoom more fun and ideas for Zoom parties!

Setting Up a Zoom Meeting

  1. Sign in to your Zoom account at illinois.zoom.us (you may have to authenticate).Zoom login page with arrow pointing to "Sign In"
  2. On the right hand side of your Zoom page, click on “Schedule a Meeting.”Zoom home screen with arrow pointing to "Schedule a Meeting" on right hand side
  3. Fill in the meeting topic, description, date, and time. To schedule a weekly or monthly meeting, click “Recurring meeting” and put in your relevant dates.Zoom set up page with arrows pointing to topic and description
  4. Determine your meeting options. You can choose to mute all participants as soon as they connect to audio, pre-assign breakout rooms, or set up the meeting to automatically record.Zoom home page meeting options
  5. Put in the emails of any alternate hosts. These people will be able to start and record meetings, send out the Meeting ID and passcode, and screenshare during the meeting.
  6. Click “Save.”
  7. You’re all set up! To start the meeting, hover over the meeting name and then click “Start.”

Adding a Profile Picture

  1. On the left hand side of your Zoom page, click “Profile.”

2. On the top left of the profile page, under the gray silhouette, click “Change.”

3. Pick out your picture, and click “Upload.” Once the picture has been uploaded, click “Save,” or “Cancel” to choose a new picture.

Adding a Virtual Background/Filters

  1. On the left hand side of your Zoom page, click “Settings,” and then “In Meeting (Advanced).Zoom home page with arrows pointing to "Settings" and "In Meeting (Advanced)"
  2. Scroll to “Virtual Background.” You can either choose one of the default Zoom backgrounds, or click “Manage virtual background” to upload your own picture!Virtual background page with arrow pointing to "Manage virtual background"
  3. Right below “Virtual background” is “Video filters.” Enable this setting to allow participants to filter their appearance or create funny faces (think Snapchat, but for Zoom)!

Setting Up a Poll

  1. To add a poll, click on your meeting’s title (Do NOT click on “Edit”).Zoom meeting with arrow pointing to meeting's title, "Catching Up With Friends"
  2. On the bottom of the page, you will see a polls box with the words, “You have not created any polls yet.” On the right hand side of the polls box, click “Add.”Zoom poll button with arrow pointing to "Add"
  3. Put in your poll’s title, question, and potential answers. Also, decide if you’d like your poll to be anonymous (not knowing who answered correctly or incorrectly).Zoom poll with arrows pointing to question, answers, and anonymous button
  4. To add another question to your poll, click “Add a Question.” Otherwise, click “Save.”"Add a Question" and "Save" button on Zoom poll page
  5. You can edit, delete, or add another poll on the poll box. Note: Each poll will show all of its questions at once. To ensure that only one question is shown at a time, make each questions its own different poll.Zoom poll box
