Library Catalogs

We talked about library catalogs in our fist session, on finding secondary sources, but catalogs are also excellent tools for finding primary sources. One strategy is to combine keywords and subject words with any of the following subject terms:

  • Correspondence
  • Sources
  • Diaries
  • Personal narratives
  • Interviews
  • Speeches
  • Documents
  • Archives
  • Manuscripts

Other strategies include using date range limiters, or searching, as authors, the names of people and organizations that might have documented a historical event or phenomenon.
