About the Speaker

Professor Yuliya Zabyelina teaches in the Department of Political Science in the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at CUNY. She specializes in interdisciplinary socio-legal research that combines theories and methodologies from international relations, criminal justice, and legal studies. Within her broader research on international criminal justice, she has maintained a particular focus on the countries of the former Soviet Union.

About the Talk

In her talk, Dr. Zabyelina discussed crimes committed by state bodies and international representatives, and particularly those who are protected by immunity from prosecution. In addition to her analysis of criminal activities, such as trafficking crimes, corruption, and sex and labor exploitation, she evaluated the existing response mechanisms developed by domestic agencies and international organizations.
