Sinfonia da Camera and the University of Illinois Oratorio Society team up to present Johann Sebastian Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium (Christmas Oratorio). The oratorio is in six parts, the first three of which will be featured in this performance. Written for each of the major feast days of the Christmas period, the first part, for Christmas Day, describes the Birth of Jesus. The second part, intended for December 26, is the Annunciation to the Shepherds. The third, for December 27, is the Adoration of the Shepherds. The first three parts were premiered in 1734 at two important churches in Leipzig, the St. Nicholas and St. Thomas Churches. We hope you are able to join us for this holiday tradition!
