About HTRC and Bookworm

Bookworm is a simple and powerful way to visualize trends in repositories of digitized texts.

The HathiTrust is one such repository of digitized text, with rich metadata that faciliates faceted analysis.

Current scope of plots

HathiTrust is always adding new volumes to the Bookworm tool. As of January 2019, the current dataset is 13.7 million volumes. Volumes are books, periodicals, and government documents, including both in-copyright and public domain (out of copyright) materials. Currently the Bookworm is limited to searches of just one word, so while "Champaign" and "Urbana" are both valid search terms, "Champaign-Urbana" is not.
