Dissertation and Thesis Research and Writing Guide for Music Students: Citing Sources

This guide is intended for music students working on researching and writing their dissertation or thesis.

Citing Your Sources

When writing papers you will be expected to cite the sources that you refer to. Whether you are using direct quotations or paraphrasing another author's thoughts, you need to provide a citation so that your readers can follow your trail. Your professor will let you know what the preferred style guide is for your class, but many use the Chicago Style or Turabian.
