Sometimes the easiest approach is not the most obvious one. With Tolstoy the vast amount of material about him makes it difficult to find what you need in many cases. If you find you are having difficulty, you might want to look at these two bibliographies. Both will be on reserve in the Slavic Library, Room 225 of the Main Library.

These two sources are organized by subject. If you were looking for Tolstoy's political activity you could consult the section entitled "History, Government". A sample page from that section is pictured below.
